DBS Disclosure through LEAFJump to resources
LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) is registered with the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) as an Umbrella Body and provides a service to its members by helping them gain access to Disclosures without the administrative burden.
To apply for a disclosure:
$1· The member organisation must provide LEAF with a written record of the name/s of people who will be verifying documentation and the name/s of people who will have access to disclosure information. Do note that passing on Disclosure information to others may be a criminal offence.
$1· When working with Adults, the applicants’ role must be described within any of the six categories within the definition of ‘regulated activity (adults)’.
These activities are:
- Providing Health Care
- Providing Personal Care
- Providing Social Work
- Assistance with general household matters
- Assistance in the conduct of a person’s own affairs
Click on the link for further full information as defined in the Department of Health (DH) publication Regulated activity (adults) 2012.
If the applicant is not performing activities or duties in regulated activity (adults), they will not be eligible for a DBS Enhanced check, Adult workforce, with a barred list check.
$1· Organisations should have a written policy on the recruitment of ex-offenders. A copy of this policy should be given to all applicants for positions eligible for a Disclosure. A model policy is available from https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dbs-sample-policy-on-the-recruitment-of-ex-offenders
$1· LEAF can supply multiple copies of forms. Currently (October 2019), the cost to process these (by DBS) is £40 for enhanced disclosure. (From October 2009 only enhanced checks were available for anyone working with children or vulnerable adults.) In addition, LEAF charges an administration fee of £25 per disclosure application to non-LEAF Education members. For LEAF Education member organisations one disclosure will cost £10. LEAF will invoice the organisation for the total amount. However, if you are a volunteer (receiving no payment for the work you do) there is no charge from DBS but you must tick the box under section x68 of the form which indicates you are a volunteer. Failure to tick this box means DBS will make a charge.
$1· New DBS certificates are now transferable between roles providing the applicant joins the Update Service. Full details can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service
LEAF has no role to play in the recruitment process of individual member organisations.
