To apply for a disclosure:

  • The member organisation must provide LEAF with a written record of the name/s of people who will be verifying documentation and the name/s of people who will have access to disclosure information. Do note that passing on Disclosure information to others may be a criminal offence.
  • Organisations should have a written policy on the recruitment of ex-offenders. A copy of this policy should be given to all applicants for positions eligible for a Disclosure. A model policy is available from https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dbs-sample-policy-on-the-recruitment-of-ex-offenders
  • The cost is £44 (DBS fee) plus £30 (LEAF Education fee) plus VAT - if it is for a paid post. If it is for a volunteer role, the cost is just £30 plus VAT. There is a discount of £10 off one DBS for LEAF Education Farmer & Educator membership, per year.
  • New DBS certificates are now transferable between roles providing the applicant joins the Update Service. Full details can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service

LEAF has no role to play in the recruitment process of individual member organisations.
